Well, it would seem that my luck with data surviving the death of my computer does not extend to my graphics. A lot of my coloring scripts don't want to work with my new computer due to some odd difference in directory paths between XP and Win7. It also looks like I lost the folder that had most of my SG-1 season 4 icons (about 100 icons per episode) waiting to be converted to image files and uploaded. Somehow, I managed to either delete the back-up folder or I never had a back-up of the PSP files in the first place.

All in all, I still have to say that my paranoia about data back-ups has paid off. If I have to lose something, I would much rather have it be icons/graphics than anything writing related. However, I'm sorry to say that it will probably be a while before I make another attempt at an SG-1 season. (Unless of course my mere mention of SG-1 sparks some kind of revival.) I haven't given up my goal to icon through the series, but I'm pretty discouraged at the loss of that set, and currently my inspiration for visual art runs toward other shows. Gosh, I feel like such a disloyal little 'Gater these days...

This news seems to have been circulating for a few days at least, but I just found out about it, so I thought maybe some others might need to know.

LJ's got a new script running on the site that redirects all outbound links (meaning any link that you may post to an offsite page or file) to "outboundlinks.me", then pushes it from there to your destination. It's a revenue generating attempt, which didn't function properly the last time they tried it, and causes a big lag for some users, especially on slow connections. There are also some security concerns about the redirection, which I won't go into.

[personal profile] astolat On Dreamwidth posted information on how to turn the script off, but it only works while you are logged in. Anyone who is logged out or who does not have the script turned off will still be redirected and tracked when clicking a link from your journal or any communities you post on. Keep this in mind when posting your links.

[personal profile] astolat's post

1) Go to the LJ admin console:

2) paste in:
set opt_exclude_stats 1

3) Hit the 'execute' button

This turns off the crappy script LJ has going where it inspects and tries to modify all the outgoing links in every LJ post you look at. (They're trying to insert themselves as an affiliate on Amazon links etc to squeeze a few extra cents for themselves. It's pretty shady.)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....okay, so I just checked the remainder of my TNG Season 5 icons. Unfortunately, they didn't save correctly and I've deleted the PSP files already. So, I will finish the season at a later date. Apologies to anyone looking for particular episodes I haven't done yet.
